Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto

historic. casual. customized. cozy.
Hotel
Kyoto

With his contemporary interpretation of Kyoto’s design heritage the hotel fits perfectly in its city that is both history-charged and exceptionally modern. The lobby is an example in which Hong Kong’s architect André Fu, who was responsible for the interior design, created a tunnel-like corridor that is an abstract homage to the traditional Torii ways.

The combination of tradition and modernity continues in the guest rooms. Traditional carpenter craft meets subtle, custom-made furniture and assures a Japanese tea house atmosphere with a contemporary touch. Speaking of atmosphere: The Washi lamp shades made my local craftsmen create a very special that conveys a strong sense of coziness.

“I hope my design will convey Kyoto’s heritage as a city. I want guests will have the same feeling of serenity and calmness that I experience when I am here.” André Fu
