Just a few steps from the Botanic Gardens and the harbor, Capella Sydney is a luxurious five-star hotel with a neo-baroque flair. The hotel is located in an iconic building that once housed the Australian Government’s Department of Education.

The now landmarked building was renovated and redesigned by MAKE Architects and BAR Studio. General Director Marc von Arnim on the renovation: “The preservation of the building’s cultural heritage has been impeccably successful and combines ultra-modern design as well as modern wellness facilities.”

The absolute highlight: the open-plan wellness area is located in the gallery on the sixth floor. It includes a heated 20-meter indoor pool, a vitality pool, a fitness room, saunas, steam baths and a spa.

The gallery is flooded with daylight from above through the original copper skylights in the historic ceiling.

The hotel is one of the historic architectural icons “Sandstone Precinct”, built from golden sandstone
