How many quarter circles fit into a single-story building? This was another formula played with by the architects at Atelier d’More, who have made a name for themselves in the past for creative complete solutions.
The restoration of a rickety building on the outskirts of Beijing is no exception. The result is a small jewel that deliberately turns the gaze inward and excitingly reworks minimalist aesthetics.
Not least, the seamless transitions to the exterior demonstrate a great deal of sensitivity for flowing transitions here. The inner courtyard, typical of Beijing’s historic building heritage, is separated into complex semi-inner courtyards.
Equally unusual: the use of natural building materials. In construction-crazed Beijing, these are the exception rather than the rule.
Many parts of the interior were realized only on site and by means of prefabricated elements – a specialty of Atelier d’More
