Twenty kilometers outside Beijing’s city center and at a venue for the 2022 Winter Olympics, the Hong Kong luxury hotel chain Shangri-La, founded in 1971, opened another fine accommodation.
Involved in the conversion of the existing industrial building into a 5-star hotel was none other than Italian architect and designer Piero Lissoni. Building on the existing steel skeleton and rough concrete structures of the architectural building relic, the glass façade sets exciting accents while creating a spacious greenhouse feeling and a flair of relaxed openness.
Lushly furnished with plants and enlivened by the reflection of diverse water surfaces, a stimulating dialogue of natural spontaneity and architectural rigor was created.
