In the heart of Denmark’s UNESCO Odsherred Geopark and an hour’s drive from Copenhagen lies the Anneberg Cultural Park. For a century, the complex of 48 buildings and breathtaking parkland served as a mental asylum.

In 2019, Kulturpark Anneberg opened 15 of the buildings to the public under the management of owner Gitte Klausen. The MOTA restaurant, under the direction of Michelin chef Claus Henriksen, places Anneberg firmly on the international culinary radar.

Apart from Henriksen’s exquisite food, the interior alone is worth a visit. The furniture was custom-made by Klausen and produced in Kulturpark Anneberg’s own workshop, while Henriksen himself designed the ceramics.

Two cultural museums, an in-house brewery and a sculpture park are well worth exploring
