Frizzantino degustazione & delights, or Frizzantino for short, in Cologne-Mülheim is something between a cozy neighbourhood Italian restaurant and fine dining. It serves Italian antipasti and hot dishes that change every three weeks and are great for sharing.

All the more so thanks to the attentive service staff, who make sure there is an ideal break between courses. The restaurant has an extensive selection of Italian and German wines as well as a well-stocked bar.

The face of Frizzantino is Carlo Picciallo, whose parents – his father from Apulia and his mother from Naples – have been running an Italian restaurant in Cologne for over 30 years, and his uncle also had his own restaurant. Picciallo has therefore grown into the restaurant business and has fulfilled a dream with his Frizzantino.

The entire interior bears his signature, he put everything together himself. He is particularly proud of the rich wall color, which is reminiscent of the ocean – a special mixture entirely according to his ideas. Actually a petrol, the color appears more greenish or bluish depending on the incidence of light.

But Picciallo’s creative work does not end there. Every dish that makes it onto the temporary menu is the result of detailed discussions with the two chefs. They do great things in their small kitchen – so guests are welcome to watch them.

As varied as the wine selection is – don’t hesitate to order a cocktail. Chef Picciallo regularly develops exciting creations. Drinks that are particularly popular with guests (e.g. the “Anima Rossa”) remain in the program permanently
