“Having travelled the world for three weeks, not slept for twenty hours – but feeling at home after the first second at the Excelsior Hotel Ernst.” That is the claim of Cologne’s luxury hotel that has been in business since 1863.

One thing is for sure: Even friends of simple shapes cannot deny the cozy factor of the classical decor celebrated in this hotel. For example: when your naked feet sink into the fluffy carpeting of the 140 rooms and suites, the pleasant colors and materials that soothe the soul or the array of pillows on the bed that invite you to cuddle.

The rooms offering a view of Cologne’s pride, the Dom, are especially desired. The perfect service is omnipresent. That is how it should be in one of the few grand hotels that is still a family property.

French pastry chef and re-inventor of the macarons, Pierre Hermé, says: “Macarons only weigh a few grams but that is enough to stir your senses.” The Excelsior Hotel Ernst is Germany’s only partner offering these delicacies for afternoon tea.

Architecture

Carl Ernst, “royal purveyor to the court”, built and owned the hotel in the city center. Formerly it was called Hotel Ernst. Opening was celebrated on May 16, 1863.

Interior Design

The hotel’s antique furniture were restored by Mossapour.

Design

Furniture in public areas and some rooms: Mossapour, Hamburg. Flowers and decoration: Heiko Kalitowitsch, Cologne.
