German-Hungarian architect Alajos Hauszmann designed the elegant palace on Erzsébet Krt Boulevard in the Pest district in the spirit of the Belle Époque. 120 years later, interior studios TBC Interiorismo of Madrid and Nopp of Austria brought the house into the modern era.

“Our challenge was to preserve the essence of the old building while creating a modern and classic design that harmonized with the opulence and grandeur of the building,” the interior designers report. In an extensive renovation, the 185 rooms and suites were furnished with antiques and artwork.

In the lobby, wood paneling, brass elements and backlit alabaster created a warm atmosphere. The city’s local flair served as a source of inspiration and was translated into metalwork inspired by Art Nouveau, among other styles.

For an extra touch of luxury, the two presidential suites, each 135 square meters, feature custom furniture, designer pieces from well-known Italian brands, and hand-blown Murano glass chandeliers and marble bathrooms.

The heart of the five-star hotel is the elegant New York Café, where artists, writers and intellectuals of distinction have been coming and going since 1894.
