The Rupertinum, an early baroque building in the old town of Salzburg, was remodeled in 1983 by architect Gerhard Garstenauer and has housed the Museum of Modern Art for almost 40 years.

Bringing together the museum-like character of the surroundings with the café of the family-run coffee roasting company 220Grad in the newly designed first floor area was the central vision of Studio Riebenbauer. The many landmarked elements were integrated into the modern design concept.

Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, light falls inside and the view outside – the floor made of Adnet marble seamlessly transitions from the inner courtyard to the café. A feast for the eyes …

The twelve-meter-long concrete bar is the centerpiece of the café. It serves as a communication and exhibition space at the same time
