Not far from the Rosenthaler Platzes in Berlin Mitte, aromatic Ramen and other Japanese delights are served at Nihombashi Sushi. But the restaurant is not typically Japanese. It is more a colorful utopia reminding of the metabolic Great Exhibition of 1970 in Osaka and the Italian-Japanese design group “Memphis”.

Under the concrete ceiling of a 90s building, a small colorful play world awaits guests: Strange creature-like objects and amorph illustrations adorn the walls. The ceiling is covered with colorful key dragons in different sizes and below them red lamp shades.

The custom made furniture feels heavy and are consciously in the way of guests. A special highlight of the fun and eagerness is found in the bathroom’s trash can. It is a basketball basket.

The iconic, custom designed lamp shades are a homage to Achille Castiglioni.
