The landmarked, octagonal pavilion is one of Zurich’s most beautiful post-war low-rise buildings. It currently houses one of the hippest izakayas in Zurich. Ino and his father Hiroyuki Oki entrusted the design office Pfeffermint with the interior. It has made a virtue out of the necessity of monument protection and preserved many of the Midcentury details – such as the wall colors or the struts on the ceiling including the light fixtures.

The eye-catcher is an opulently planted object in the center of the room that creates airy, casual seating niches. The two-tiered bar counter is adorned with original tiles from Japan, and the simple birch plywood of the stools and screens or the seats of the bar stools and lounge chairs made of linen weave also pay homage to Japan’s reduced aesthetics.

Just a three-minute walk from the Ooki Pavilion is the Letzigraben outdoor swimming pool designed by Max Frisch
