The La Pirogue has been a Mauritian Institution since over 40 years. But institutions also need care. Hence the first hotel on the West coach of the island, originally built in 1976, received a comprehensive facelift in 2017.

Interior designer Virginie Koenig focused on the trendy, alt timeless boho-chic style, which creates a friendly and cozy atmosphere in the rooms of the bungalows via a light optic, colorful details and selected folkloric details. The new design concept meets the modern heart and convinces further with the use of sustainable materials.

Besides the rooms, the communal areas and restaurants were also re-designed: Scottish born Architect Alistair Macbeth, who lives on Mauritius, celebrates the interplay of nature and style with furniture made of organic materials.
