An Italian restaurant in Berlin’s Weinbergspark has taken the place of a traditional meeting place with a bang. However, although it was always well frequented (the sunny location probably contributed to this), nobody misses the Swiss restaurant from the past.

Despite its location, Coccodrillo is best enjoyed indoors – the décor is a shrill madness that combines numerous styles. The “murals” are neon tubes, with pin-up posters hanging in between; you’re supposed to feel like you’re in northern Italy in the 1960s, but there’s also a good dose of Hollywood.

On plush red velvet at red tables, guests eat from floral-patterned china under the watchful eyes of porcelain predator cats. What is served is much more classic. In addition to a very good sourdough pizza, the menu includes Italian starters, pasta and various small dishes (e.g. arancini).

Last but not least, this is a great place to drink: there is a large selection of wines, and the Coccodrillo also serves excellent cocktails.
