Paris has many luxury hotels – but none directly on the Seine for a long time. Bernard Arnault and his LVMH Group have remedied this shortcoming. The Cheval Blanc in the legendary La Samaritaine department store – which reopened in 2021 after years of renovation work – is a superlative establishment: panoramic views of the Bastille, Seine, Louvre and Montmartre.
Peter Marino designed the hotel as a temple to French luxury, with sumptuous stone floors, leather-clad elevator cabs, vintage furniture by Maria Pergay and Charlotte Perriand, and others. Art, art and more art, by the likes of Frank Gehry and Hans Hartung. A Dior spa. Four restaurants, including chef Arnaud Donckele’s Plénitude, which has three Michelin stars.
And 72 rooms and suites with every conceivable comfort – including a blackout switch that Bernard Arnault wanted and which ensures that not a single appliance flashes at night.
Sensational in the Dior Spa is the supposedly longest hotel indoor pool in Europe, which stretches over a length of almost 30 meters
