If you don’t want to stay in a palace or a super-trendy hotel in Paris, the Château Voltaire is recommended, courtesy of Zadig&Voltaire owner Thierry Gillier and designed by art director Franck Durand.

32 ultra-comfortable rooms in a building in the triangle of Palais-Royal, Place Vendôme, and Musée du Louvre. Classic Parisian chic, great carpets-and the voice of the woman who announces which floor you’re on in the elevator sounds like Juliette Gréco’s.

The hotel combines three buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. In the bar La Coquille d’Or you can find original rococo elements on the ceiling
