In its former life, the Hotel Carlota was a motel with the flowery name Jardín Amazonas. The building structure was an exciting starting point for the architects.
They oriented themselves on given photos from the 70s that show the motel and especially its central patio as an oasis in a city jungle – complete with fake lawn and sunbathing guests by the pool. Of that, only the typical structure around the patio was left though.
Hence, a major focus of the project was the revitalization of this space with trees to heighten the ‘green factor’ as well as a bar by the pool.
The mainly original faced towards the street was covered with mirror glass in the 80s with the objective to give the building a touch of modernity – a measure typical for the Cuauhtémoc quarter that was supposed to make suburban areas more attractive.
