The house was built according to Minergie, a new Swiss standard for modern and, among other things, energy-efficient construction. Even from the outside it is an eye-catcher with its striking dark natural stone façade and the large window front running all around.

The 33 rooms spread over five floors are optimally soundproofed, which makes perfect sense in the boutique hotel’s central location. Throughout the Art House, the works of young creatives are on display, and the hotel also regularly hosts exhibitions.

The interior, which is characterized by natural wood, stone and marble, and above all the architecture of the building, such as the statement staircase that connects all six floors, are also artistically valuable.

A notable design element is The Window on the hotel’s 1st floor, with its view of a passageway between the often deserted, graffiti-ridden Steinenbachgässlein and Basel’s lively Steinenvorstadt district
