London’s design studio Pirajean Lees came up with a very special concept for the Mimi Kakushi in downtown Dubai: Starting from the Japan of the 20s, when modern art and Western fashion entered the country and challenged traditional values, the interior design is inspired by the personality of Sessue Hayakawa. The heart-throb, who was the first Asian actor to become a Hollywood star, was known for his extravagant parties, his gold-plated cars and his castle-like mansion.

The Japanese restaurant – that fittingly used to be a night club – is furnished opulently. The interior indulges in Oriental Art déco with hand-painted walls, customized colored windows and decorative accessories. On top, there is hand made furniture that memes the traditional Japanese carpentry and uniquely designed lamps that stage the premium textures and materials.

The name Mimi Kakushi means “covered ears” and refers to the striking Bob haircut worn by the young Moga (modern girls) of Japan in the 20s
