The Freigeist Göttingen Nordstadt that opened in July 2022 is already the second libertine house in the patriarchal university town.The hotel is part of the Sartorius Quartier, a newly developed living and business area on the historic factory premises of the Sartorius AG.
With windows in the industrial look, concrete and polished floors, the design refers to the historic headquarters of the company as well as the architecture of the location. Light wooden floors and custom made larch wood walls create a warming contrast to the industrial look.
Further, the larch wood was treated with the Yakisugi technique: With this traditional Japanese method to refine wood, the upper layer is burnt to highlight the natural texture of the wood and make it more resilient at the same time.
