After architecturally accurate renovation and annexes by local, internationally renowned architecture studio JKMM, the art museum Amos Rex is among Europe’s most innovative buildings. The museum is located in the iconic glass palace Lasipalatsi, which was built in 1936 in a functional style and is a landmark building today. The public Lasipalatsi plaza was later expanded by several accessible domes. Their cone-like extensions feature windows that let the interior be flooded with daylight. The largest part of the museum stretches across 2,200 square meters in the basement below the Rex cinema that is located in the same building. Wave-like ceilings with heights from up to 10 meters and an artsy decorative mantling of 8,600 metal pieces surprise here. The rustic parquet floor serves as a design contrast.
The museums Ateneum, Kiasma and the Helsinki Art Museum – all of them already worth visiting because of their architecture – are all in the direct vicinity
