The audience of the concert hall of the Barenboim-Said academy is super close to the musicians. Architect Frank Gehry designed the hall in close with collaboration with acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota and star conductor Daniel Barenboim.
Up to 682 viewers can be seated on two levels around the stage. With the help of a combination of permanently installed and flexible seats, the distance between musicians and audience can be reduced.
The concert hall panelled with Douglas fir wood, named after the composer and conductor, has two oval, slanting and seemingly weightless balconies that seem to float above the parquet.
Acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota was also responsible for the concert halls of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.
