Proud ten years of renovation already indicate that this five-star hotel in the heart of Zurich’s historic center is a very special boutique hotel. The walls of the formerly nine separate medieval town houses that were merged into one unit tell stories of seven centuries of history.

Leading architect Tilla Theus aimed to integrate the hotel into the existing structures. The houses were connected  with internal passages and the old stone walls and beams were enhanced with chrome, steel and glass elements — but the characteristic small rooms as well as the historic details such as Grisaille paintings, frescos, stucco and other traces of the medieval inhabitants were preserved.

The 35 rooms and 14 suites have all been furnished individually. Original medieval elements such as clay floors, tile stoves or wood panels meet international design classics by Le Corbusier, Charles & Ray Eames or Eileen Gray; a style full of personality that more than honors the 700-year history of the buildings.

“Regarding design and materials, architecture and interior design orient themselves around the precision and the quality to the tiniest detail. This gives the medieval base the uniqueness as well as a feeling of being tailor made.”   Tilla Theus
