There are places that ask you to slow down the moment you arrive. W Sardinia – Poltu Quatu is one of them. Hidden within a natural fjord on Sardinia’s northeastern coast, the whitewashed village appears almost carved into the granite cliffs, its marina shimmering beneath the Mediterranean sun. The name Poltu Quatu translates to “hidden port”—and the feeling of discovery becomes the hotel’s defining design narrative.

Rather than imposing itself on its extraordinary surroundings, W Sardinia embraces them. The original architecture, with its cascading volumes, sweeping arches, and organically shaped openings, is preserved as a tribute to the resort’s distinctive heritage, while New York-based Meyer Davis layers in a contemporary vision deeply rooted in Sardinian culture. The result feels less like a conventional luxury hotel and more like a cinematic interpretation of the island itself.

Throughout the 157 rooms, suites, and public spaces, the designers looked beyond postcard-perfect beaches, drawing inspiration from Sardinia’s ancient Nuragic civilization, local mythology, and the mysterious Janas—mythical cave-dwelling guardians said to protect sailors. Rounded silhouettes echo sea caves and weathered granite formations, while tactile materials including Orosei marble, hammered metals, woven textiles, and handcrafted ceramics create interiors that invite touch as much as admiration. A palette of sun-bleached neutrals, warm earth tones, marine blues, and soft turquoise reflects the ever-changing colors of the surrounding coastline.

Art is integral to the experience. Sculptural ceramic installations by Luca Scassellati, textiles by Fabrizio Sanna, ceramic vessels by Walter Usai, paintings by Cinzia Murgia, and the monumental W sculpture by Sardinian artist Nicola Filia celebrate the island’s contemporary creative scene, making the hotel feel unmistakably local despite its global pedigree.

Social life unfolds effortlessly across beautifully choreographed spaces. TANIT, named after the ancient Phoenician goddess, pairs impeccably presented seafood with panoramic marina views, while the W Lounge transitions from relaxed coffee mornings to lively cocktail evenings beneath sculptural lighting. Outside, the WET Deck captures the rhythm of Sardinian summers, evolving from sun-drenched afternoons into DJ-led aperitivo sessions overlooking the water.
