Brooklyn has been waiting for a design hotel of this caliber for a long time. In May 2017, the wait was over: The Williamsburg Hotel opened in a eight-floor high brick building that perfectly fits in the neighborhood.
The project was developed by two guys born-and-bred in Brooklyn. Toby Moskovits and Michael Lichtenstein’s real estate company and both of their families have their roots here. “Our goal was to create a hotel that embodies Williamsburg. I grew up here and Brooklyn is in my DNA, so it was important to construct a hotel not only for guests, but also for the neighborhood,” says Toby Moskovits..
The Williamsburg Hotel brings a dash of elegance to Brooklyn yet is simultaneously warm hearted and inviting. In the entrance, waterfall-like stairs lead to the bar of the industrial building. Street artist Eric Rieger wove a piece of art made of thousands of colorful threads above the counter. Room-high windows offer a view over Manhattan, Brooklyn and the East River from the rooms.
The historically inspired wallpapers were designed by Beastie Boy Mike D. and feature significant Brooklyn scenes and personalities – such as Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, a group of Hasidic Jews and Notorious B.I.G.
