In 1897, a talented young guy with messy hair moved into the house with the number nine on the Passeig de Colom. Along with Manuel Pallares, who he met at the art school La Llotja, Pablo Picasso opened his first studio in the narrow building with its candy colored facade.

Over 100 years after the exceptional artist worked on stunning adult early works, such as the “Ciencia y Caridad“(the painting of a hospital room) here, the house was thoroughly renovated. In 2015 the design hotel The Serras opened in the historic building. Of course, the design is a homage to the former tenant.

Muted colors such as grey, silver, sand, mustard and green dip the house into a harmonious landscape of Picasso’s gusto. On top of that, black and white graphics on rugs, wallpapers and bed heads span an arch with Barcelona’s modernistic epoch. Honest materials like iron and wood are a reference to the past of fishery district.

A further piece of art can be found on the roof of the hotel. The “Rooftop” features a pool, a bar and a wonderful view onto te Marina. Picasso could not have drawn a more idyllic scenery.
