The Main

cosmopolitan. sensual. sophisticated. atmospheric.

At the Main, the evening does not begin with dinner. It begins with a shift in atmosphere: a first drink at the bar, a glint of bronze-toned glass, the warm grain of wood under a softened wash of light. On Französische Straße in Berlin-Mitte, a former restaurant space has been reimagined as a fluid world of dining, drinking and lingering—less a collection of separate rooms than a single, slowly unfolding experience.

Opened in early 2026, the Main occupies a space within the TITANIC Gendarmenmarkt Berlin but deliberately feels apart from the hotel around it, with its own entrance and an identity closer to the cosmopolitan energy of Paris, London or New York. The design, by interior architect Asli Arikan Dayioglu, is built around movement and transition. Rather than imposing a conventional restaurant sequence, the rooms flow into one another, allowing the bar, dining area and cigar lounge to overlap visually and atmospherically.

The bar is the natural center of gravity. Projecting into the room, it draws guests inward while creating a sense of movement around it. Its bronze-colored glass catches and multiplies the light, giving the space depth as evening falls. By day, the palette is quieter: warm timber, natural materials and gentle illumination create an understated sense of ease. At night, the interior takes on a more seductive character. Pools of light, warm accents and reflections across glass and metal turn the room into something richer, darker and more theatrical.

This transformation from day to night is one of the Main’s most distinctive qualities. The materials remain restrained, but their relationship changes with the light. Wood softens the harder presence of metal and glass; reflections animate surfaces; and carefully placed lighting creates pockets of intimacy without sacrificing the openness of the overall plan. It is an interior designed not merely to be seen, but to evolve over the course of an evening.

Outside, the Main Garden extends the same visual language into the open air. A blue-and-white ceramic panel inspired by Portuguese azulejo traditions introduces a decorative note, connecting art, architecture and planting. Olive trees, seasonal greenery and discreet lighting lend the garden the atmosphere of a contemporary Mediterranean courtyard—a natural continuation of the interior rather than a separate terrace.

A setting in which dinner, cocktails and late-night conversation can blur into one another.
