Some places ask you to choose how you’d like to spend the evening. SUPER* refuses to make you decide. Part neo-brasserie, part listening bar, part concept store, part gallery, part neighborhood living room, Munich’s cultural playground blurs the boundaries between hospitality, retail, music, and contemporary art with effortless confidence.
Located inside HERZOG MAX, the ambitious transformation of the former Karstadt Sports building near Karlstor, SUPER* feels less like a restaurant than a carefully choreographed experience. From morning espresso to late-night martinis, the space constantly shifts its mood without ever losing its identity—a rare quality that reflects the rhythm of the city itself.
Designed by hospitality designer Angelina Opitz, the interiors embrace a “retro meets modern” philosophy that feels refreshingly free of nostalgia. Warm timber, brushed metal, saturated colors, soft lighting, and generous lounge seating create an atmosphere that is equally inviting for a solo coffee, an impromptu lunch, or an evening that quietly stretches into the early hours. Nothing feels overly polished; instead, the space possesses the relaxed confidence of somewhere that has always existed.
Music is treated with the same level of intention as the architecture. At the heart of SUPER* sits a dedicated HiFi Listening Bar equipped with a VOID Acoustics sound system, where carefully curated playlists, artist sessions, and listening events replace the predictable soundtrack of a conventional cocktail bar. The result is immersive rather than loud, encouraging conversation while giving music the attention it deserves.
Art is equally embedded into the experience rather than simply decorating the walls. Curated by artist Liza Mercedes, rotating installations, digital works, and site-specific interventions continuously reshape the space, ensuring that no two visits feel entirely alike. Even the restrooms become miniature exhibition spaces, transformed every few months as part of the venue’s evolving artistic program.
Retail naturally completes the narrative. Vintage objects, vinyl records, books, fashion, design pieces, and colorful SUPER* collectibles coexist with the restaurant, dissolving the line between gallery, boutique, and social space. It’s an approach that feels distinctly contemporary: guests don’t simply come to eat—they come to browse, listen, discover, and linger.
Very SUPER*: The Bobster Roll with Buttertoasted Brioche, lobster and lemon mayonnaise.
