“Satoyama Jujo” is composed by the Japanese terms of “mountain village” and “10 stories”. Yet, the 12 rooms and public areas of the 150 year old house just outside Tokyo have a whole lot more to tell.

The minimalist furnished rooms talk about the commonalities of Scandinavian design and Japanese design philosophy. The furniture by Dane Arne Jacobsen meet those of Isamu Noguchi and traditional Japanese floor pillows.

In the Onsen, guests can experience another one of the country’s traditions.  In a beautiful wood and stone building visitors shower first on small stools and afterwards dip into a pool with warm thermal water.

Those who find a bath tub on a balcony, do not be surprised! The spirit relaxes especially well with a view of the mountains – and that is also central in the Japanese bathing ritual.

Sanaburi is a festive meal after the seeding of rice in Japan. It thanks all helpers and asks for a good harvest. The restaurant with the same name in the hotel celebrates Japanese culinary traditions and takes them into the present.
