The five-star hotel is a total pice of art of Danish designer and architect Arne Jacobsen. Between 1956 and 1960, he personally designed the entire interior – from the door know to the furniture. Many of the pieces (such as the world famous seats “Swan” and “Egg”) advanced to classics. The authentically kept room 606 cannot be booked any more – one opened in 2014 can. As an homage to Jacobsen, Spanish designer Jaime Hayon designed room 506.
In 2018, the hotel icon was modernized carefully, assuring that the original design is respected, by the Danish design studio Space Copenhagen. Peter Bundgaard Rützou and Signe Bindslev Henriksen, founders of the studio, say: “We feel very honored to be part of this renewal. The hotel is a true landmark for design lovers all over the world. Our intention was to keep its exceptional character without turning it into a museum. We wanted to revitalize the hotel for a new generation.”
The Café Royal Restaurant is appointed with some of Jacobsen’s less well known pieces: such as the dining table “Giraffe” that was found in the basement of the hotel.
