The UNESCO World Heritage Site palace in the heart of Budapest was restored over proud years into this luxury hotel. Time and effort were worth it: Now royal luxury unite with impressive history in the Matild Palace which is part of the noble brand The Luxury Collection.
Interior designer Maria Vafiadis mainly assured that the interior celebrates the famous past of the historic palace as a blooming society meeting spot of the city. She was inspired by the lush lifestyle of Austria’s archduchess who commissioned the palace finished in 1902. Hence, elegant chandeliers, hand made glass mosaics, filigree head boards as well as traditional haring-bone parquet floors mark the interior.
But the Budapest of the early 20s of the past century was also an archetype of many details. The extravagant baths in the exclusive spa style were inspired by Hungary’s iconic hot springs, while the rooms’ decorative color palette consisting of aqua, green, gold and copper mirrors the roof landscape of old Budapest.
