MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology

artsy. interesting. accessible. lively.
Cultural Site
Lisbon

The art museum in the cultural quarter Belém spreads across an area of 7,000 square meters along the bank of the Tajo River. London-based architect Amanda Levete’s ambitions were just as large. The building was supposed to reference Lisbon’s historic heritage as well as lead into the future.

Further, the impressive wavy roof has become a public area on top of the galleries. Three-dimensional tiles create a feeling of liveliness: The complex surface of the facade with these tiles plays virtuously with shade, light and the element water.

Special Tips

Quite meditative: The reflexion of the Tajo River are mirrored on the building’s facade.
