The old opera restaurant in Munich’s Nationaltheater was – to say it mildly – not representative for the reputation of the Bayerischen Staatsoper. Since July 2021, the Ludwig Zwei shines in unknown radiance and greets guests in a place with proper ambience.
The reason for this new radiance is no one less than Marcel Wanders, who comprehensively redesigned the restaurant. The Dutch star designer was inspired by the design elements of the historic building as well as the passion and drama of opera.
Shine brass columns, red velvet curtains, noble marble floors and grey alcantara make for an elegant ensemble with a touch of extravagance. Custom made furniture as well as lamps by Moooi, Barovier & Toso and Flos are added to that. The result is a surprising visual experience that rounds up an opera visit beyond the culinary.
