Set within the redbrick bones of a former military barracks in the heart of Eindhoven’s historic De Bergen district, Kazerne isn’t your typical boutique hotel — it’s a hybrid design destination where hospitality, art, food and culture blur into one continuous, immersive experience.
What began as a spirited pop-up during Dutch Design Week in 2012–13 — a place to combine food and design in a single lively space — has since evolved into a year-round destination where guests sleep, dine, meet and linger surrounded by contemporary design. After the pop-up’s success, Kazerne opened a permanent restaurant in 2014; phase two, unveiled in 2018/19, added a boutique hotel and expanded spaces to complete its vision as a “home of design.”
Today, eight generously proportioned rooms and suites — ranging from intimate retreats to a 140 m² penthouse loft — are dotted within 2,500 sqm of exhibition space. Each room feels less like a conventional guest chamber and more like a private design gallery, with pieces that rotate alongside the institution’s changing exhibitions.
Step into the 24/7 living room — part members club, part social salon — and you’ll immediately sense why locals and travelers alike flock here. There’s an energy much like a creative studio crossed with a convivial salon: conversations over espresso spill into discussions about the latest installation, and meals at the industrial-chic restaurant segue seamlessly into a stroll through exhibitions that shift every few months.
In 2025, Kazerne added a new chapter: ByDay Café, a softly hued daytime space serving slow breakfasts, long lunches and quality coffee — an intentional counterpoint to the dramatic industrial interiors of the main restaurant.
