The K5 is a frontier runner between design worlds and awakes Japanese as well as Scandinavian style emotions. The Swedish architecture and design studio Claesson Koivisto Rune is responsible for this exciting mix. They designed the exterior as well as the interior of the 20 rooms in the former 20s bank building.

The overall concept subtly combines the classic Japanese architectural aesthetic and local materials with custom made Swedish minimalist sofas, seats and lamps. Speaking of combining: The hotel in Tokyo’s hip East is marked by an overarching design concept called “Aimai”, a Japanese word that can be translated as ‘vague’ or ‘unclear’. The idea behind that is to mix rooms and their functions or to let areas melt areas together in order that their character changes throughout the day.

The K5 is a prime example of Tokyo’s rising East
