What a project! Architectural studio Matteo Thun & Partners turned a landmark, artificial island in the Venetian lagoon into a luxury resort.
The 20th Century buildings – among them a hospital – were totally redesigned. The area of the hospital, built in the 30s, were turned into a luxury hotel with 230 suites, a generous roof terrace, an outside pool and a panoramic restaurant. A business meeting area and an elegant holiday villa is located close by in an art nouveau brick building with a garden and a view of Venice. I
The adjacent brick gazebos were rebuilt according to the “box-in-the-box” principle. That means that the interiors were turned into maisonettes, offices, suites and a generous spa area that respect the landmark walls. The landscape of the lagoon dominates the entire project. Regional materials such as brick, tile, glass, mirror and Venetian textiles are used without nostalgic or historic touch.
Special Tips
Go to church again! The multi-functionally used “The Church” on the premises features a Murano chandelier that is a must see.
