IYO Restaurant, a renowned establishment in Milan known for its contemporary Japanese cuisine, has reopened after a complete restyling by Lai Studio | Maurizio Lai Architects. Located at 74 Via Piero della Francesca, the restaurant now spans 800 square meters, having undergone extensive renovations that also included the addition of new spaces.
IYO has long been distinguished by its blend of traditional Japanese culinary arts with Italian, particularly Milanese, influences. This distinctive fusion remains at the core of the renovation, which places emphasis on a refined, luxurious yet understated interior. The design balances elegance and comfort, with meticulous attention to detail and a harmonious blend of materials and lighting.
Poliform Contract played a key role in transforming IYO, handling both the structural elements and the new spaces. These include private event rooms and a lounge bar adjacent to the entrance. The new design features ceiling paneling, natural walnut wood flooring, wall panels, and partitions, all contributing to a sense of depth and visual contrast through a combination of materials such as wood, fabric, Murano glass, mirror, and steel.
The Italian design brand also provided custom-made furnishings, enhancing the space’s sophisticated atmosphere. The restaurant features tables with Patagonia marble tops, wooden inserts, and steel bases, along with coffee tables combining marble and steel. The seating includes chairs and armchairs upholstered in bouclé fabric with black elm wood frames, and the design also includes bespoke steel shelving units and wooden sideboards with marble and steel inserts.
The standout feature of the renovation is the lounge bar, fully designed by Poliform Contract. From the striking steel counter to the seating and accessories, every detail has been thoughtfully crafted to complement the overall aesthetic.
