Radical thinkers and other rebellious characters have already lived here in the past – even if not voluntarily. Because the building erected in the 1840s used to be a jail in which aristocratic authorities locked up “dangerous” revolutionists.
After the penal system seized in 2009, the building received a breath of new life with a lot of respect for the old walls. And since locals used to call their jail “ditch hotel”, the redesign into an exclusive lifestyle hotel was an obvious choice.
The 38 cells – pardon – rooms and suites are endowed with all amenities and feature rüstig oak floors as well as custom-made furniture. And in the Hotels restaurant, not surprisingly called Wasser & Brot (meaning water & bread), Michelin-star chef Jeremy Biasiol serves exquisite French cuisine. Unlike in the past, nobody needs to be talked into staying.
