A modern bistro has recently enriched Vienna’s gastronomy and design scene. The name was simply adopted from the pizzeria that had occupied the building for the past 30 years. With exposed walls, soaring ceilings, and Yves Klein blue as the color scheme, architect Franz Driendl has opted for an interior design that plays with spatial structures, flowing transitions, a focus on cross-functional furnishings, and minimal design dialogue.

The bar and bench construction, which manages with just a few elements, is particularly striking. The L-angle of the supporting steel substructure is finished in the restaurant’s signature blue. Culinary-wise, Azzurro features regional ingredients and exciting combinations such as kimchi fritters or spinach and miso dumplings. The in-house natural wine bar provides the perfect beverage pairing.
