The design strategy for the Andaz Doha is quite obvious: to incorporate influences from Qatar and its natural environment into the brand identity of Andaz. And that is exactly what they have achieved. Colors and geometric ornaments typical of the region appear in various areas of the hotel, from the wall design of the rooms, which is based on the mashrabiya motif ubiquitous in Arabic architecture, to carpets and cushions that pick up on the natural elements of sun and sand and reflect these features in the form of the Al-Sadu pattern of the weaving technique.
The project was directed by the Madrid-based, award-winning design firm Brime Robbins, specialists in luxury projects. The lobby’s design is based on a modern and deconstructed Arabic majlis, the traditional place for sitting together found in every household and, in most cases, located in secluded outdoor areas, often in courtyards. Here, people gather over Arabic coffee and pastries to exchange the latest stories from their lives and the wider world. The seating in the lobby is arranged under a light fabric roof, representing the tent in which a majlis is also often placed.
