In 2006, the building authorities in Flanders started a competition to re-design the Africa Museum in Tervuren. Headed by Stéphane Beel Architects, restoration, renovation and expansion work took place. With the installation of a multi-media library and a congress center in the former Colonies Building, the original entrance, which leads through the park, was recovered.

The best view of the building and park can be enjoyed can be enjoyed from the also new museum restaurant Tempo
