What do you do with the place where the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center collapsed during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001? Architect Daniel Libeskind drew up the master plan for the redesign of the World Trade Center site and developed a concept that was executed by Michael Arad.

The World Trade Center Memorial is a peaceful place with a museum and a memorial for the 2,749 victims of the attacks. Where the two towers stood, there are now two large basins in which water flows calmly.

In the atrium of the museum there are two supporting columns, which are still preserved from the original towers. On 110,000 square metres of exhibition space, the story of 9/11 is told in multimedia displays.

The pavilion in front of the museum, designed by the Norwegian architects Snøhetta, is a bridge between the memory of past events and confidence in the future. It offers a number of sustainable features, including maximum energy efficiency, daylight and recycled waste water.
