Philippe Nigro

Product Designer de

Philippe Nigro was born in Nice in 1975 and completed his design studies at the renowned Ecole Boulle in Paris. He then moved to Milan, where in 1999 he signed on as an assistant to Michele de Lucchi – known to many as the brains behind Artemide’s archetypal “Tolomeo” luminaire.

As de Lucchi’s right-hand man, Nigro worked for the big names in design. Among them furniture manufacturers such as Alias, Poltrona Frau or Danese but also companies in other fields such as Olivetti, Compaq or Van Cleef & Arpels.

Since 2003, Nigro has been designing under his own name in parallel to his job with the Memphis co-founder and soon had a respectable client portfolio to show for it. In 2012, he finally parted ways with his Milanese master and has since collaborated with Ligne Roset, Skitsch, Serralunga, Glas Italia, Foscarini, DePadova, Baccarat and Hermès, among others.

“Shape everyday life through surprising yet meaningful objects,” is the Frenchman’s credo. One design in which this intention has been particularly well realized is “Confluences” for Ligne Roset. The puzzle-like sofa not only fits the French company because of its innovative and fresh aesthetics.

Its name also refers to the new, architecturally interesting district of Lyon, where the Rhone and Saône rivers converge. Ligne Roset’s headquarters in Briord is just an hour’s drive from “La Confluence”.
