Matthäus Antonius Maria Graf von Thun und Hohenstein, aka Matteo Thun, was born in 1952 and initially studied at the Salzburger Akademie under the aegis of Austrian painter, graphic artist and author Oskar Kokoschka.

In 1975, he received his PhD at the University of Florence in architecture and co-founded Sottsass Associati as well as the still legendarily celebrated radical “Memphis” group in the early 80s. Hamburg’s Side Hotel and the ecological Vigilius Mountain Resort are among his distinguished and outstanding projects.

The close to nature Vigilius Mountain Resort was crowned as the most sustainable hotel in Europe in 2016 at The World Boutique Hotel Awards . Matteo Thun also received several design prizes for his product designs, among others, for Urinal Girly for Catalano, the industry’s most important award, the Compasso d’Oro.

Thun’s Milan’s studio opened in 1984 is known for its interdisciplinary approach. It creates architectural, design and communication concepts. Since 2003, Antonio Rodriguez is partner of Matteo Thun & Partners.

“Whether it is about design or architecture projects, I never let border be a limit but always look for new solutions. I pledge for a design that focuses on the essential beyond stylish staging”, says Matteo Thun.

Instead of subjecting himself to common conventions, his credo is about contradiction: NO Design! With that he means discovering the true, simple meaning of things.
