And that in Ljubljana’s oldest hotel: Slon 1552 radiates an ambience that can be described as soft minimalism. Warm materials, lots of plant green and soft lighting meet purist straightforwardness. An eclectic mix of objects of a former bistro and antiques from Belgrad is added to that – old rugs from Afghanistan, East-Asian separators or copper cookware add a touch of French cuisine.
The year 1552 refers to an episode of Emperor Maximilan II.: During his trip back from a visit to Spain, he stopped in Ljubljana. In his luggage: a wedding present in the shape of an elephant – which means „slon“ in Slovenian. The hotel is supposed to be were the animal took a rest.
