Copenhagen

THEKRANE offers a multi-sensorial experience whereby the dominant color black of the interior is a reference of the building’s past as a coal crane. Sea, sky, harbor and panoramic view across all of Copenhagen as well as the industrial edge district of Nordhavn, one of the last harbor districts resisting gentrification, dominate on the outside.

The visionary owner Klaus Kastbjerg and architect Mads Müller gave their multi-story project a serious aura across all levels: from the reception on the ground floor to the conference room called “Glassbox” on the level above, the spa and the terrace on the second floor to the resting area  “Krane Room“.

Denmark’s love for functional design that omits all that is superfluous is reflected in the essential materials leather, wood, stone and steel. The furniture, custom made by craftsmen, is completely integrated in the interior design and takes on the role of usable sculptures.

Mads Müller an architect specialized in “adaptive re-use“. Recently he converted a church into a dorm and an abandoned factory into social living flats.
