Church? Gallery? Restaurant? Duddell’s in London is a bit of everything. The branch of the Cantonese star temple in Hong Kong in the British capitol was planned by architecture studio Michaelis Boyd.
“We wanted to capture the spirit of the mother restaurant yet present it in a totally different manner” explains Alex Michaelis. The circumstances for that were optimal as the restaurant is located in a very unique place: the former St. Thomas church. The different areas are grouped around the former altar.
Inspired by Hong Kong’s traditional 60s tea houses, the architects set their focus of the interior design of the landmark building on brass and geometric patterns. Contemporary art fills the light-flooded room with cultural spirit.
Long live diversity! Cantonese Dim Sum and French champagne by Perrier-Jouët celebrate intercontinental fraternization on the menu.
